Calling all Volunteers!
Asbury United Methodist Church will be hosting a Sweet Potato Drop this
Saturday, May 19th from 8am-1pm. What is a sweet potato drop? Through the
work of Society of St. Andrew, a grower in North Carolina has sweet potatoes
that will go to waste if the food is not recovered and directed to agencies
feeding the hungry. So the grower is donating and we are receiving a 40,000
lb truck load of potatoes on our parking lot Saturday to be sorted into 10
lb bags and distributed to food agencies, food pantries and soup kitchens
feeding the hungry. Isn’t this a great opportunity to show God’s love and
fellowship at the same time! Just think ole time barn raising or quilting
bee.

So grab a friend, or family member and come join us for an hour or more on
Saturday morning. We will be in the north parking lot of Asbury United
Methodist Church just off of Hughes Road in Madison. The address is 980
Hughes Road.

This Thursday, May 3, is the National Day of Prayer. Inside Out Ministries has organized this year’s intercession for the Storehouse House > of Prayer to host 9 hours of prayer and worship in the sanctuary at Asbury UMC (980 Hughes Rd, Madison) for people to come and go as their schedule allows.

Musicians will provide live continuous worship during that time from 11am- 8pm. There will be a more corporate time of prayer (leaders praying at the mic) from 11.30am – 1pm and again from 7 – 8pm.

Please join with the Body of Christ in lifting our city, state, and nation before the Lord. The theme scripture for this year’s event is Psalm 33:12

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”

2011 is almost over (wow!) and there is still much to do. We continue to ask for Prayer support and Church Partners as our area’s basic needs grow. If you have any ideas or can offer help in the following areas please call 256-325-5193 or click on our Contact page. We’ll be in touch asap.

1. Funds for helping with utility, rent and other special needs. Throughout the winter utility bills are expected to be extremely high and some live in mobile homes or apartments that are not well insulated, so extra funds for utility needs will be needed.

2. Design assistance. Many Church Partners will be doing Mission Conferences in the coming months. We will be attending to share God’s work in the Madison area and need someone to help design our display. Need a creative outlet? Let us know – we need you!

3. Physical Labor assistance needed. December 28, 29 and 30 (probably 8-5) – we need physical labor at the office. Reorganizing and setting up some more private spaces for training and work needs. There will be moving desks, boxes, temporary walls and possibly even moving some things to storage. So, if you have the strength, the time and are willing to give a day or a few hours, please let us know.

4. Volunteers for daily, weekly and special project support. The needs are growing and so is our work, so opening up more days is going to be required, thus making the need for Volunteers more critical. We need anyone who can offer 1 day a week to 3-4 days a week in the morning hours.

Blessings to you all, Merry Christmas and may the love of our Heavenly Father overflow in and through your lives.
