1 Samuel 16:5 – For man looks on the outward appearances, but the Lord looks on the heart.
The name, Inside-Out Ministries, comes from the recognition that true change occurs first on the inside of us before it becomes our words and actions on the outside. The inside and the outside are connected, they are the same person. Many people try to make themselves feel better by changing cars, jobs, clothing and hairstyles, cars, spouses, etc., only to find the good feeling doesn’t last. When we encounter the Almighty God who created us and accept Jesus as our personal Savior, we are transformed in our thoughts, beliefs and feelings – the change that brings the love, peace and joy we had been seeking on our own.
Think of a caterpillar, all gooey and weak on the inside, until the changes ordained by The Creator take place and the caterpillar becomes a beautiful butterfly filled with the power to fly. So too, it is with us.
The Greek word for transformed, metamorphosis (used in Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 3:18), is used today to describe the amazing change a caterpillar goes through in becoming a butterfly. It is a beautiful picture of what happens to us spiritually when we allow God to direct our thoughts: we are changed from the inside out, we become more beautiful, and we are set free to soar to new heights.
